Ceremonial Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves carefully hand-picked, steamed, and then ground into a fine powder. The result is a vibrant green powder that is smooth and creamy in texture, with a rich, umami flavour.

To differentiate between ceremonial Matcha from culinary Matcha, look for the colour, texture, and aroma. Ceremonial matcha (made from the youngest leaves) is a bright, vibrant green colour with a very fine texture and a sweet, delicate aroma. Culinary matcha (made from more mature leaves) is often a darker green colour with a slightly coarser texture and a more bitter aroma.

The process of making matcha is considered an art form in Japan, with the preparation and presentation of the tea being just as important as the taste. It is often served as part of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, known as chanoyu.

Ceremonial matcha is prized for its health benefits, which include high levels of antioxidants and L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation and mental clarity. Matcha has been linked to numerous health benefits, including high levels of antioxidants, improved brain function, increased metabolism, and lowered risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Organic Ceremonial-grade Matcha

1 tsp/cup ~ 70ºC ~ 2 min

Place a teaspoon of tea per 240 ml cup into an infuser. Add filtered hot water and allow to infuse for 2 minutes. Strain the tea and serve.

Our Tea Maker’s recommendation to make a delicious Matcha latte:

  1. Sift 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a small bowl or cup to remove any clumps.
  2. Add a small amount of hot water (about 1/4 cup) to the matcha powder and whisk until it becomes a smooth paste. Use a bamboo whisk or electric frother for best results.
  3. Heat up 1 cup of milk in a small saucepan or in the microwave until it’s hot but not boiling.
  4. Add the hot milk to the matcha paste and whisk until it’s well combined and frothy.
  5. Add sweetener to taste if desired.
  6. Pour the matcha latte into a mug and enjoy!

You can also experiment with different types of milk, such as oat, almond, or coconut milk, to make a dairy-free version.
