Hojicha is a unique and delicious green tea that offers a distinct flavor profile and potential health benefits. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with a meal, it is a must-try for any tea lover looking to expand their palate.
Hojicha is a type of Japanese green tea that is roasted over high heat. Unlike other Japanese green teas, houjicha has a distinctive reddish-brown color and a nutty, smoky flavor. The roasting process not only changes the appearance and taste of the tea, but also reduces the caffeine content, making it a perfect choice for those who are sensitive to caffeine.
The production of Hojicha involves first steaming the tea leaves, then roasting them at a high temperature to stop the oxidation process. This results in a tea that is lower in antioxidants than other green teas but higher in catechins, which are responsible for the tea’s unique flavor and aroma.
Hojicha is not only a flavorful tea on its own, but it also serves as a perfect base for a latte with its unique toasted flavor, making it a popular choice for those looking to switch up their coffee routine or try something new.
